Under the overall supervision of the Chairman, National Seed Board and the direct supervision of the chief of Seed Certification Directorate, the specific duties of the Virologist/deputy manager shall include the following:

Coordination with farmers, NGOs, PHDP and MAIL on sustainability of services provided by the laboratory

Participate in design and development of visibility materials
Provide technical assistance during training of laboratory technical staff
Provide input for project progress reports and work plans
Assist in facilitating and/or participating in meetings and working groups

Follow up of all the logistic and procurement activities

Assign individual duties and responsibilities to the laboratory staff
Manage operational aspects of the laboratory
Design and pilot a system to monitor the health status of planting materials available in Mother Stock Nurseries including need based replacement of infected material
Collect and perform molecular (PCR)and serological analyses (ELISA)for the plant samples for various pathogens
Develop and implement activities to provide advice on various deleterious pests and diseases (nematodes, fungi, bacteria and viruses/viroids)
Effectively apply sanitary and phytosnaitory methodologies
Ensure all project documents are complete, current, and appropriately stored
Tracks and reports Bio-technology project progress (technical and financial) on a monthly basis to the National NRM Manager and Senior Rural Development Coordinator
Ensure that the project is in line with the Logical Framework

Advanced university degree in plant pathology, Ag. Biotechnology  (PCR, ELAISA)  
At least 3 years’ experience of performing molecular PCR and serological assays (ELAISA)  
Familiarity with planting materials production and seed certification system,
