Job Description: About the Assignment: Objective of the activity is to demonstrate the value of professionally trained managers to Afghan businesses. The plan is to recruit Afghan MBA graduates from Afghan and international business schools to be assigned to private businesses. WIE will take applications from businesses in our target market and have a recent MBA graduate assigned to them. The business will identify a specific issue or opportunity they need the MBA to address and the MBA will be assigned for 6 months on a cost shared basis. WIE will hire a mentor for each batch of 5 to 7 MBA graduates to assist the MBA graduates for their assignments and then mentoring the MBA graduates in their work with the business and the business owner in managing their staff. Mentoring will be an important aspect of the program to help the business owner understand how to incorporate the new ideas into his or her business and to help the recent MBA graduate learn how to be effective in his or her new role. At the completion of MBA graduate’s assignment, it is expected that the MBA will have demonstrated his/her value sufficiently that the employer hires the graduate directly, but the real benefit of the program is the anticipated revenue growth of businesses receiving MBA graduates. Mentor’s Roles & Responsibilities: 1.Mentors will work with MBA graduates to prepare them for their assignments in WIE client businesses, and then mentoring the MBA in their work with the business and the business owner in managing the MBA Graduates assigned to them. 2.The Mentor will help the business owner understand how to incorporate the new ideas into his or her business and to help the recent MBA graduate learn how to be most effective in his or her new role. 3.The mentor will assist each MBA Graduates in conducting assessment of WIE client business during their first month of her/his assignment so that MBA graduates can feed the information gathered during assessment to a Business Action Plan [BAP]. 4.Mentors will monitor the performance and progress of MBA graduates implementing agreed BAPs under her/his portfolio. The mentor will be paying, at least, weekly physical visits to the businesses under the mentor portfolio in order to assist MBA Graduates with any issues or challenges that MBA Graduates cannot resolve alone. 5.The mentor will also collect monthly timesheets of MBA Graduates with other necessary documents for MBA Graduates’ monthly stipend payment processing and submitting them to WIE regional office. 6.Mentor, during her/his visit, will discuss performance of MBA Graduates with WIE client business and collect necessary feedback and so that the mentor can discuss the feedback with MBA Graduates to facilitate more productive environment for MBA Graduates and WIE client businesses. 7.The mentor will discuss and resolve any dispute between MBA Graduates and WIE client businesses within 5 working days as they emerge. If the mentor’s efforts don’t make any progress towards resolving those issues, the mentor may escalate those issues to the relevant WIE regional office. 8.Finalize BAPs for each WIE client businesses under the mentor’s portfolio and send them to WIE regional office, responsible Private Sector Development Case Officer. 9.MBA Graduates will report to her/his mentor any difficulty with understanding or completing the tasks required of her/him. 10.Provide monthly reporting to WIE regional office in the templates agreed upon. 11.Provide end-of-term report to WIE regional office at the end of the mentor’s assignment. The report will include success stories, quick survey and picture of before and after of each client business under the mentor’s portfolio, recommendations and challenges for each client business. 12.The Business will maintain attendance sheets of MBA graduate, provide performance feedback, and coordinate with Women in the Economy as required. 13.Mentors will inform WIE as soon as possible of resignation notice of MBA Graduate and work with WIE regional office to replace the MBA graduate with 10 working days. 14.Mentors will frequently visit the WIE client businesses and the MBA Graduates to ensure activities are on track and achieve the pre-determined objectives on time. 15.Mentor will take care of any property or materials provided to her/him and ensure they are used properly and maintained as instructed by WIE.
