Job Description: Responsibilities: The Project Engineer has to ensure, within his duties, that the assigned projects are executed with satisfaction for client, customer and GIZ. He/she needs to operate within the given budget and contractual conditions and parameter of quality and time agreed. Compliance with GIZ policies and GIZ O&R has to be ensured. The Project Engineer is responsible for the technical, content-related and organizational implementation of individual components or measures of a contract, project or program. In consultation with the manager responsible for the contract, the engineer plans, steers and monitors activities and measures. • Tasks in detail • Regular visits of construction sites to supervise the contractor`s activities on site ensuring that they meet the standards expected by GIZ. • Complete information on the planning and progress of GIZ Projects (hardware and software Project). • Help team for preparation of Monitoring, Reporting and Supervision strategy that will help in better implementation of project activities. • Reviews material submitted by contractor for compliance with BoQ and specifications and refers to line manager for approval where required. • Assist in the selection and competitive bid process of local contractors and NGO’s. • Reviews existing practice by contractors and makes recommendations • Ensures that the contractor provides the labors with the safety equipment at the construction sites. • Ensures that the contractors comply with their work plans to complete the works within the specified timeframe. • Assesses the work activities of contractors, measures completed work and makes recommendations for progress payments to contractors. • Checks and reviews work quantity reported by contractor for interim payment. • Prepares daily record of work progress at the construction site. • Ensures that the measurement of actual work is done. • Prepares progress reports. • Conducting meetings with line departments with close cooperation and coordination of team leader whenever required for solving technical and social problems of the ongoing projects. • Assist in preparing field visits for international visitors and GIZ personnel. • Performs any other duties deemed necessary.
