Job Description: Overview The Dairy Officer will work under the direct supervision of the Provincial Manager based in Herat Office and will constantly liaise with Project Implementation Coordinator and CARD-F Implementation Unit (IU) Head for the successful implementation of Dairy projects. He will be responsible for the training and technology transfer to the Extension Agents and the beneficiary farmers in order to increase the dairy farmers’ incomes through the effective delivery of project outcomes. He will mainly be responsible for technically supporting the dairy value chains in respect of any technical support needed from time to time. Some other specific responsibilities of the Dairy officer are given below: Duties and Responsibilities: He /She will be required to deliver the following duties: Ensure appropriate and timely implementation of activities related to dairy production, collection and processing in the project area; Train project extension agents on topics related to milk quality control. This ranges from trainings related to milk hygiene, milk testing, milk handling and transportation; Oversee the process of training delivery by project extension agents and make sure the trainings are provided to farmer groups in a timely fashion and according to the agreed syllabus; Assist the Project Manager in selection of appropriate locations for construction of milk collection centers (MCCs) and sub-centers, selection of milk collectors and sub milk collectors; Train milk collectors on best practices related to milk collection, milk testing, storage, and milk transportation and handling. The Dairy officer should regularly supervise the milk collection process to make sure quality milk is collected and transported to milk processor after proper testing is conducted; Inspect milk collection centers (MCCs) and Equipment of MCCs to ensure hygienic practices. Advise livestock owners on disease control and animal husbandry methods; Train beneficiary farmers on best feeding practices to improve fodder production and preservation. This includes training of dairy farmers on making winter feeding such as silage and hay and urea treatment; Prepare seasonal calendar of dairy activities for the districts where the project works and train farmers on its usage; Collect regular data regarding production, productivity, feeding, vaccination, medication and diseases needed for the project; Assist field staff in conducting beneficiary status surveys and other surveys related to dairy value chain. Provide technical advices to dairy farmers on regular basis; Travel intensively to the field and undertake any other task assigned by the supervisor.
